Privacy Policy — Open in WhatsApp

Summary

The Open in WhatsApp Chrome extension is built with privacy as a non-negotiable baseline. We do not collect, transmit, store on our servers, sell, or share any user data of any kind. There is no analytics, no telemetry, no account system, no remote logging.

This page describes — in detail — exactly what data the extension touches, where it goes, and the legal basis for each.

Data the extension processes

1. Phone numbers detected on web pages

When you open the extension popup, it scans the active tab's text for phone numbers using a regular expression that runs entirely inside your browser. The detected numbers are displayed only in the popup. They are never sent anywhere, never stored, and are discarded the moment you close the popup.

2. Your template message

The optional template message you save in the popup is stored using chrome.storage.sync. This is Google's standard browser-sync storage, scoped to the extension. If you are signed in to Chrome with sync enabled, the template will sync across your own Chrome instances on other devices. Strawberry Labs LLC and Berrydesk never see this data — it is end-to-end inside your Google account.

3. Microphone audio (only if you use the dictation feature)

If you click the microphone button to dictate a message, the extension records audio from your microphone using a hidden offscreen document inside Chrome. The audio is decoded into raw waveform data and passed to a local speech-recognition model (Cohere Transcribe) that runs entirely in your browser using ONNX Runtime Web. The transcribed text is inserted into your template field. The raw audio is discarded immediately after transcription. Audio data never leaves your device. We do not transmit, store, or process it on any server.

4. AI model weights

The first time you use the AI enhance or dictation features, the extension downloads model weight files from the Hugging Face CDN (huggingface.co):

• onnx-community/LFM2.5-350M-ONNX — used for message enhancement
• onnx-community/cohere-transcribe-03-2026-ONNX — used for speech recognition

These downloads are made directly from your browser to Hugging Face's servers — Strawberry Labs LLC and Berrydesk never see or proxy them. After download, models are cached in your browser's IndexedDB and reused offline. You can clear them at any time by clearing the extension's site data in chrome://settings/content/all.

5. Permissions the extension requests

• activeTab + scripting — used to scan the current page for phone numbers when you open the popup. Nothing is read until you open the popup.
• contextMenus — used to add the right-click "Open in WhatsApp" menu item to selected text.
• storage — used for your template message and the "Open WhatsApp Web directly" toggle.
• offscreen + microphone — used only for the dictation feature, only when you explicitly click the microphone button.

Data we do NOT collect

For absolute clarity:

• We do not have user accounts.
• We do not run analytics (no Google Analytics, no Mixpanel, no Plausible, no Posthog, nothing).
• We do not log requests on any server, because the extension does not contact any of our servers.
• We do not collect IP addresses, device identifiers, browser fingerprints, or telemetry of any kind.
• We do not sell, share, or rent data — we have no data to sell.

Children's privacy

The extension is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly process data from them.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update the "Last updated" date above. Material changes will be reflected in a new version of the extension before they take effect.
